Stand Up Paddle Boarding

Since my dad is in town, we decided to try out the latest craze of stand up paddle boarding. My dad, Chris and I rented 3 boards and went out for a while. It was pretty awesome. Great workout and even better comedy. Chris and I were falling all over the place., and we probably fell over the most when trying to make the other person fall.

Here is one of the boards we rented. The Laird 12'1 monster. It was pretty stable and the easiest to stand on (please keep in mind the relativity of that statement).

And this is pretty much what we looked like by the end:

SBSD Mud Run

It was crazy hot, but the mud was nice and refreshing. It was hard as shit and my sprained ankle made my achilles feel like it was going to snap several times, but I kept going. Oh yeah, and Chris kicked my ass again. It was probably about a 2 minute gap but he took an early lead and I could never catch up. He's just better than me, what can I say? We did get some awesome footage though - go check it out now!

P90X Day 1 (Day 15): Bring It!

It was one of the hardest workouts I've ever done. The first one is Chest & Back. It was basically an hour of doing push-ups and pull-ups. Chris and I were both feeling a bit nausious. And then when that hour was over it went straight into an Ab Ripper X. Just 16 minutes of abdominal and core work. To say it was hard is an understatement.

Chris and I are both optimistic about the program and its potential for getting us in great shape. He was still confident that I couldn't get that ripped without changing what I eat, but he agreed that these workouts are a great step. He even began to question whether he wanted to be so supportive and do the workouts with me. But he also was sure that he didn't want to be the fat guy on the volleyball team.

Day 14: P90X Day 1 Pics + VB Tournament

Chris and I played in a beach volleyball tournament all day today. It was an Unrated and we won it, earning our B Rating. We didn't lose a single game all day. We won a whole bunch of cool stuff, including power bars, shirts, desk fans, power gels, and plaques. As far as workouts go, it was a pretty good one. We played 7 total games and that's a lot of running around on the sand.

I also took my P90X Day 1 pictures.
Weight in these pictures: 210 lbs.

Day 10

The P90X workout program arrived today. Chris and I are going to start it on Monday. We're very excited about trying something new. The program looks very thorough and tough. It has a fit test you must complete to see if you're 'P90X Ready'. We're planning to do that on Friday after the bike in to the gym. They also recommend taking pictures, which I will do before Day 1 of P90X (4/16/07). I'll also post all of my numbers from the fit test.

7.00a -> 14.5 mile bike ride, 55 min.
8.10a -> Legs, Shoulders, Abs (LA Fitness)
6.40p -> 15 mile bike ride, 62 min.

Pre Day 1: The Plan

We returned from Italy on Saturday and it is now Sunday. I'm all set to begin some serious working out. I know this isn't going to be easy especially since Italy was not so kind to the midsection.

Some stats...
Height: 6'0
Weight:: 215 lbs.

The plan for the cardio workouts is to drive down to Chris's house in South Redondo and bike to Marina Del Rey to a gym near work. That bike ride is about 14.5 miles. The bike ride back from work is about 15 miles. That should be a little less than an hour each way for cardio.

While we were in Maryland at Giannina's mother's I saw an informecial for P90X. Chris had mentioned that workout regimen a few months back and after seeing the informecial I was convinced. At least convinced to give it a shot. The workouts and goals seem realistic. It looks like a lot of very hard work - that sounds like somethng I can be inline with. So I ordered the program. It comes with 12 DVD's, a workout book, a nutritional guide (which I would have to ignore completely), and some resistance bands. I also ordered the P90X pull-up bar. That will arrive in about a week or two. Until then, the plan is to do a more traditional weight lifting regimen at the gym after the bike ride and before heading in to work.

Tomorrow will be the first day I make the full 15 mile ride from Chris's house. Until now, I was riding in to work 2-3 times per week from a mid way point (closer to my house). I have been doing that for a little over a month with little to no signs of improvement in the physique. I hope that kicking it into a higher gear will change things.
